I was wondering from the original 6 starter decks, whether they can evenly face-off against each other? I want to buy them and keep them exactly as they are to duel to be able to keep the feel of those days but I'm not sure how well SDK and SDY will stand against the newer ones.

So I know SDK vs. SDY is a fair match, but is SDJ/SDP vs. SKE/SYE a fair match?

From what I remember:
SDK > SDY
SDJ > SDP
SKE > SYE

I'm not sure about SDJ vs SKE don't remember how well they were put together then and don't care to look them up.

Any pile of random 40 cards > SDP.  That was all the original toon monster with their normal monster counterparts mashed into one deck.

Yes, but if Relinquished hit at a good time it could be gg.

Actually, IMO, SDP > SDY > SYE > SKE > SDK > SDJ . I seem to recall winning a Starter Deck XCT ages back with SDP, and I wasn't the only one that used it. Unless you dead-draw them (IE, don't get Toon World), Toons are EXTREMELY powerful when there's only 1 card (two in SKE, SYE and 3 in SDP) that can destroy Toon World. It has a lot less bad cards than the other decks do, and has VERY powerful Spells/Traps. (To the point that its S/Ts are better than SYE's for the most part, Swords aside.)

SDY has stuff like Wall of Illusion in addition to powerful S/Ts like Trap Hole, Last Will and Soul Exchange to make up for crud like Silver Fang and Doma. SKE relies too much on low-level beatdown, it has no defence to speak of, and its S/Ts are mostly fairly weak, aside from Just Deserts, Megamorph, Fissure, Soul Exchange and Shadow Spell. It's difficult for SKE to get over Wall of Illusion, Aqua Madoor, Giant Soldier of Stone, etc. SDJ looks somewhat good on paper, but its monsters are fairly mediocre, aside from the half a dozen or so beatsticks. It suffers from similar problems to SKE, except with worse Spells/Traps and far more dead cards. Also, its high-levels are far, far worse.

In short, SDP probably has the LEAST dead cards of the first four decks, making it far more reliable. It also has the fewest high-levels, aside from SDJ who trades them for useless S/Ts like Fake Trap and Dragon Treasure and weak low-levels like Baby Dragon or Flame Manipulator. It also has more defence than SYE and SKE, which is really important in this style of play. (And seriously, do not underestimate how much Wall of Illusion screws people up, it's why the Kaiba decks aren't as good.)

Though, to answer your question, yeah, SDY, SYE, SKE and SDP can face reasonably well against eachother. SDJ will get stomped, and SDK will have SOME problems, but could probably work. SDP will wreck the others if it gets off Toon World or a strong Relinquished, however.
