Weekly Deck Building Contest!

39MfaUx.png

Welcome to the weekly deck building contest!
Congratulations to Exarion, who won the 02/15 Weekly Deck Building Contest with his deck, Sphinx of Greatness! Focused on Summoning Theinen the Great Sphinx, the deck combines Beast-Type support, LIGHT support and Level 10 support, making those sphinxes pretty scary. Everyone who participated will receive 1 x Pre-Synchro Era pack as thanks for participating. For winning this contest, Exarion will instead receive his choice of 3 x Pre-Synchro Era or 1 x Pre-Xyz Era packs.

Previous Winners

Spoiler

The Rules

  • Each member may submit up to one deck per week.
  • Each round of the contest will last one week.
  • The decks entered in a previous week's contest will be placed in a poll during the new week's contest.
  • Comments on the decks up for voting are encouraged, but not required.
  • Each participant will receive 1 x Pre-Synchro Era pack as thanks for participating.
  • The winner will instead receive a prize of their choice of 3 x Pre-Synchro Era packs or 1 x Pre-Xyz Era packs.
  • Be creative!

This Week's Contenders

Last week's theme was to make a deck around only 1 monster card.

Spoiler

The Theme

This week's theme, chosen by Yami Stomach, is monotype.

That's right, create a deck with monsters of only 1 Type. Also, no more than 2 cards from an archetype.

Have fun!

No more than 2 cards from any one archetype, or no more than 2 cards from archetypes period? (IE, could I run Archfiend Marmot of Nefariousness, Archfiend Mirror, Guardian Elma and Guardian Tryce in one deck?) And could I run, say, 3 of each of those cards, or is it 2 copies per archetype/2 archetype cards only.

...Even with the Archtype limitation, i think Either Winged Beasts or Psychics run this gambit pretty tight. I call Aqua-type!

no more than 2 card per archtype i guess fits it best. multiple archtypes are fine and the limit is on different cards, so 3 amazoness swords woman and 3x amazoness paladin would be fine but no more amazoness cards.

also i spy bias. everyone had 1 vote so you voted for yourself to win the competition. nice one exarion

Why isn't the rule "you can't vote for yourself" in place? Since the votes are public, it'd be easy to see and you can disqualify anyone who votes for themselves?

I feel like that was fair, Stomach. Exarion's was the only entry that didn't already have a self-vote. So it made the most sense for a tie-breaker vote IMO.(Kinda unfortunate that I happened to vote for the only deck that had no votes yet, but I liked it most of the three by far. >.>) Plus, really, you and Warrain voted for yourselves. Why shouldn't Exarion have been allowed to?

if it was him voting for himself initially for a tie (basically what we did) and you voted his deck to win i'd be fine. but he broke the tie by voting for himself. dosent that just seem a little biased?

Considering the voting was going absolutely nowhere, and he actually gave it more time than usual, I think it was fine. It's not like he could just leave it up for another week in hopes of someone voting on it. If it makes you feel any better, just pretend it's my vote that was the tiebreaker since it was literally the only non-self vote.

As I mentioned on the last week's topic, but clarifying more this time: my tie-breaker votes prioritize entries without self-votes. It just happened this time it was mine.

BTW, the point of being able to multiple votes is to vote someone besides yourself (which I stopped to do because now I only vote to break ties).

Spamming plants mainly from the Graveyard. Sadly, it's not easy to bring Meliae or Albverdich this way. =/

Fun fact: an old ruling (but still current since it hasn't been refuted by Konami) makes the effect of Queen of Thorns cumulative. =]

Are the plant "Princess" monsters not all considered an archetype, or are they a series?

"Number" is an archetype. You have 4 different "Number" monsters.

Yeah, I'm a little late, but I needed to test with Cloud. Anyway!

Aqua Tribal

Monsters: 26

2x Abyss Soldier

2x Aqua Spirit

2x Barrier Statue of the Torrent

2x Blizzed, Defender of the Ice Barrier

2x Cloudian Eye of the Typhoon

2x Escher the Frost Vassal

2x Evilswarm Ketos

2x Greydle Eagle

2x Penguin Soldier

2x Snowman Eater

2x Treeborn Frog

2x Vortex Trooper

2x Warrior of Atlantis

Spells: 8

2x Big Wave, Small Wave

2x Solidarity

2x Moray of Greed

2x Aqua Jet

Traps: 6

2x Poseidon wave

2x Spiritual Water Art - Aoi

2x Eisbahn

So yeah, pretty standard tribal, really. Aqua is the one i've had the second most success with, although it's usually more fun than Winged Beasts (Speaking of, why has no one come out with thier Not BW/Harpie deck yet?). Control the field with clears, go into Ark or merrowgeist for more control and power, and use solid to make my somewhat tiny guys into 2k+ beaters. Works well, although doesn't have great answers to multiple threats.
