This Week's Contenders
Last week's theme was to create a card inspired on a book, using the story in a clear way.
The Chaos of the Cat
Activate this card only if you control no monsters while your opponent controls at least one monster.
Each effect of The Chaos of the Cat can only be activated once per turn.
(1) Once during the Main Phase, the turn player may excavate cards from the top of their Deck until they reveal a monster that can be Normal Summoned or Set. That player may discard a card, and if they do, that player Special Summons that monster to their side of the field and sends the remaining cards to the Graveyard.
(2) When this card leaves the field, shuffle all monsters Special Summoned by this card, and cards in the Graveyard back to their owners' deck, then each player draws a card.
Based from The Cat in the Hat

If this card would be destroyed you can banish one "Zombie Type" monster from your graveyard instead.
The Giving Tree
EARTH Level 7 Plant/Effect 0/3000
Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by controlling a Level 1 monster with 0 ATK and no other cards, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. You cannot Summon or Set monsters. Monsters you control are unaffected by card effects you control, except "The Giving Tree". Once per turn, during your Main Phase 1: You can target 1 other monster you control; this card loses 2 Levels and 1000 DEF, and if it does, the targeted monster gains 2 Levels and 1000 ATK. During your opponent's End Phase, if this card is Level 1 with 0 DEF and you control a Level 7 monster with 3000 or more ATK, you win the Duel.
"The book follows the life of a female apple tree and a boy who are able to communicate with each other; the tree addresses the human as "Boy" his entire life. In his childhood, the boy enjoys playing with the tree, climbing her trunk, swinging from her branches, and eating her apples. However, as time passes he starts to make requests of the tree. After entering adolescence, the boy wants money, and the tree suggests that he pick and sell her apples, which he does. After reaching adulthood, the boy wants a house, and the tree suggests he cut her branches to build a house. After reaching middle age, the boy wants a boat, and the tree allows him to cut her trunk to make a boat, leaving only a stump. Each such stage of giving by the tree ends with the sentence "And the tree was happy."In the final pages, the boy (now an old man) meets the tree once more. The tree sadly states she has nothing left to give, as her apples, branches, and trunk are gone and only a stump remains. But the boy wants only "a quiet place to sit and rest," which the stump can provide. This final stage of giving, and the entire story, end with the sentence "And the tree was happy."

Oh right, reference material... let's see here...
There we go! Last place is so totally mine.
Put 1 Fade Counter on this card instead of paying Life Points or discarding cards to activate Effect Monster's effects. When this card is sent to the Graveyard: You lose 1000 Life Points for each Fade Counter that was in this card.
The Picture of Dorian Gray is about a young man. Once kind and innocent, he started to fear his beauty going away, then wished his portrait would fade instead of him. He also began to decay morally, and each sin would make the portrait age as well.
This week's theme, chosen by FattMatt, is to settle archetypes!
Eventually, a series of cards becomes an archetype when a card supports it referring to those cards as "name of archetype" cards. "Monarch", "Familiar-Possessed" and "Celtic Guard" were just series until they got a card supporting each of them as archetypes is released. And this is what this week's contest is about!
