Weekly Create-A-Card Contest!

Welcome to the weekly create-a-card contest!
Congratulations to FattMatt, who won the contest on 01/24 with Wigglytuff! A Fairy-Type monster based on the classic Wigglytuff Pokémon TCG card, adopting also its new typing and all the elements from its original attacks. Even its Summon requirements reminds us of its evolutionary line!
Everyone who participated will receive 1 x Pre-Synchro Era pack as thanks for participating. For winning this contest, FattMatt will instead receive your choice of 3 x Pre-Synchro Era or 1 x Pre-Xyz Era packs.

Previous Winners

The Rules

  • Each member may submit up to one card each week.
  • Each round of the contest will last for one week.
  • The cards entered in a previous week's contest will be placed in a poll during the new week's contest.
  • Comments on the cards up for voting are encouraged, but not required
  • The winner of a round gets to decide the next open theme for the contest.
  • Be creative!

This Week's Contenders

Last week's theme was to choose a member from XC and make a YGO card based on your choice, using any name from the name history, and making the effect matching the name and;or personality.

The Theme

This week's theme, chosen by Exarion, is about books. Cards like Faustian Bargain or the whole Burning Abyss archetype were based on literary masterpieces, so it's your time to choose a book and make a card around its story. A summary from its wikipedia article should be enough reference, so try not to be obscure.

Have fun~

The Chaos of the Cat

Field Spell

Activate this card only if you control no monsters while your opponent controls at least one monster.

Each effect of The Chaos of the Cat can only be activated once per turn.

(1) Once during the Main Phase, the turn player may excavate cards from the top of their Deck until they reveal a monster that can be Normal Summoned or Set. That player may discard a card, and if they do, that player Special Summons that monster to their side of the field and sends the remaining cards to the Graveyard.
(2) When this card leaves the field, shuffle all monsters Special Summoned by this card, and cards in the Graveyard back to their owners' deck, then each player draws a card.

Based from The Cat in the Hat

A Mermaid Tale

Quick-Play Spell Card

This card can only be activated when you control a "Mermaid" monster. Send 1 face-up "Umi" you control to the Graveyard; send all "Mermaid" monsters you control to the Graveyard, and if you do, you can destroy cards on the field, up to the number of "Mermaid" monsters sent to the Graveyard by this card's effect. Immediately after this card resolves, Special Summon 1 Normal Monster from your hand, Deck or either player's Graveyard. It cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. You can only activate "A Mermaid Tale" once per Duel.

The Giving Tree

EARTH Level 7 Plant/Effect 0/3000

Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by controlling a Level 1 monster with 0 ATK and no other cards, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. You cannot Summon or Set monsters. Monsters you control are unaffected by card effects you control, except "The Giving Tree". Once per turn, during your Main Phase 1: You can target 1 other monster you control; this card loses 2 Levels and 1000 DEF, and if it does, the targeted monster gains 2 Levels and 1000 ATK. During your opponent's End Phase, if this card is Level 1 with 0 DEF and you control a Level 7 monster with 3000 or more ATK, you win the Duel.

"The book follows the life of a female apple tree and a boy who are able to communicate with each other; the tree addresses the human as "Boy" his entire life. In his childhood, the boy enjoys playing with the tree, climbing her trunk, swinging from her branches, and eating her apples. However, as time passes he starts to make requests of the tree.
After entering adolescence, the boy wants money, and the tree suggests that he pick and sell her apples, which he does. After reaching adulthood, the boy wants a house, and the tree suggests he cut her branches to build a house. After reaching middle age, the boy wants a boat, and the tree allows him to cut her trunk to make a boat, leaving only a stump. Each such stage of giving by the tree ends with the sentence "And the tree was happy."
In the final pages, the boy (now an old man) meets the tree once more. The tree sadly states she has nothing left to give, as her apples, branches, and trunk are gone and only a stump remains. But the boy wants only "a quiet place to sit and rest," which the stump can provide. This final stage of giving, and the entire story, end with the sentence "And the tree was happy."

Oh right, Weekly CAC. One Sec... there we go!

Styxx of Didymos

Warrior | ********* | EARTH | Effect | 3100 ATK | 3000 DEF |

Cannot be Special Summoned, except by the effect of "Styxx of Didymos". When this card is destroyed by a card effect, Special Summon it from the Graveyard or Banished Zone. Then, choose either Warrior-type or Divine Beast-type. This card is treated as the chosen type and has it's original ATK and DEF increased by 1000. While this card has been Special Summoned by this effect, it cannot be destroyed by battle and whenever it battles a Monster you're opponent controls, you can destroy both Monsters.

Oh right, reference material... let's see here...

There we go! Last place is so totally mine.

Soul-Stealing Portrait

Continuous Trap

Put 1 Fade Counter on this card instead of paying Life Points or discarding cards to activate Effect Monster's effects. When this card is sent to the Graveyard: You lose 1000 Life Points for each Fade Counter that were in this card.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is about a young man. Once kind and innocent, he started to fear his beauty going away, then wished his portrait would fade instead of him. He also began to decay morally, and each sin would make the portrait age as well.
