I made my reintroduction a few months back, and got busy with life, so I haven't had a chance to really be back on the forums in a while. When I was looking around the topics, it made me think of how long ago I got started (when it first began, I remember getting LOB packs and the yugi deck). After thinking back for a while, I remember watching the anime/cartoon with an old friend of mine, and really wanted to start playing in real life. It was really from there that it expanded to having other friends getting into it, going to locals, making new friends, and all of that good nerd. So, with all of that in mind, what got you guys into Yugioh?

i started watching the cartoons then got the cards then fell out of it unitl about a year ago when my brother got me into it and got hooked ever since. but it was funny the game is so different from the cartoon yugi dropped dark magician without tributes and used cards in the middle of the opponents turn that couldnt be used i started watching them again and it was confusing whose turn it was or if there was even anything like that.

I was a big pokemon fan. A kid my mom used to babysit came over one day, saying he found a show that I'd like much better than pokemon. Better than pokemon? I said. Ha. Never! Pokemon will always be my one and only, I said. Next day, I sit down, and find this "Yu Gi Oh" Show that said kid was talking about. Since, then I have been completely hooked xD Now, I do only like the original series, with Yugi and the gang. I won't watch the other spin offs. But, that's my story and I'm sticking to it ^^

I used to hate Yugioh. I used to hate Dragonball Z too. I used to think they were stupid, when I hadn't even watched an episode. Though, playing a card game isn't exactly the smartest thing in the world. My friend came round to my house with his "huge" tin of cards. And he taught me the basics of how to play, which I thought was pretty interesting. He taught me how to fuse, and I remember asking him why Opticlops and Mystic Clown didn't fuse, even though they were in the exact same stance.

A few weeks later, me and my brother bought SD3. With only 40 cards, we used to split the Deck into two and just duel with 20 cards and 4000 LP. I always managed to get 2 Solar Flare Dragon out, so that basically sealed my victory. Then we got SD2, the zombie one, and I absolutely loved Vampire Genesis. It's a shame it's just so crap. I used to tell my brother "let's pick whichever 6 cards we want and start with them." I always picked Call of the Mummy, Vampire Lord, Vampire Genesis, Axe of Despair, Despair from the Dark and Monster Reborn. That allowed me to OTK him when he had 8000 Life Points. But, that was providing he didn't play Torrential Tribute or Compulsory Evacuation Device.

Oh well. A friend liked this game, so he introduced me to it. With Duelist Kingdom rules obviously. Then he lent me one of the GBA games, and I was all like "...wait, this isn't how you played it!". So I went on and learned the actual rules xD And then I started to beat my friend and to be a walking YGO library.

^that basically my first deck was a bunch of beatdown shiz and although i can Deckbuild extremely well now my IRL deck is terrible and i dont go to Locals (CBA)

I used to hate things that were kind of "main stream" as well, but I did enjoy both growing up, heh.

The anime, the first one shown on Kids WB with Yugi and the gang, that one only of course never watched the rest! As soon as I saw them dueling, the variety of cards and different strategies how everyone had something unique, it was really interesting and fun especially because it was a card game I understood how to play (the pokemon one was so confusing I just collected the cards).

I got out of it when I was like 15 or younger though and only started back recently.

I liked the show when I watched the first season though it got tiring seeing Yugi go into Yami mode (aka use his puzzle to stack his deck to draw whatever he wanted).  When LOB came out I started playing

I caught the anime's English dub on Kids WB during Duelist Kingdom, the first arc. I learned pretty soon after that they had actual cards. I asked my parents for a Starter Deck... I got the Yugi Starter and several Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon packs. My friend Joey was over at my house and he had gotten the Kaiba Starter. I pulled a Flame Swordsman from one of the LOB packs and traded it for his Starter Deck Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Yep. My first trade. And I really must say it wasn't a bad deal for me. xD

Maybe it was just meant to be?

That's pretty cool that you just randomly saw them and decided to get them. It seems like a lot of people started with the cartoon and evolved from there.

Yeah, I am pretty sure that is how it works for most people.  Also, I invented XYZ summoning, just saying.
