It's my friend who I'm trying to get to use YVD who's getting these messages. He downloaded it and got all the images and everything then he clicked connect and I told him that's where he makes his account. The first thing that he put in ended up getting the message 'Connection Error.'

How do I fix this? Can you list a variety of things to do because I want to know what to tackle next time I see him and his computer to rectify it ASAP. Note he took down his firewall and it still didn't work... appreciate all help, thanks!

I didn't want to, but I have to ask: was he connected to the internet? >.>

Also: is Internet Explorer correctly installed?

Yes he was connected to the internet. And his browser's work just fine. He is the admin of his Windows and he tried with no firewall on, he thinks that it was because he messed up when he tried to register the first time because he put in something and then tried something else. If that were the case, would it say connection error? And he tried to uninstall and re-install and still got the same issues, help!!!

That is certainly not the case.

If he is using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, I would advise running YVD with Adminastrative Privledges (right-click > "Run As..." or "Run as Adminastrator").

If that doesn't work, I would try disabling any Firewall and Anti-Virus programs he may be running (I know this may seem scary, but it's only temporary!). If it works with it all off, turn one of them on and keep the others off - use deductive reasoning to figure out which one/s are blocking YVD and add them to that/those program/s Whitelist.

Finally, I would try booting up Internet Explorer and make sure it's in working order (and double check ActiveX is enabled).

If none of the above fixes your problem, please answer the following questions;

1) What Operating System is the user using?
2) What type of network are they connected to? (Home, public, hotspot, landline, wifi, 3/4g, etc)
3) Where does he have YVD installed?
