There's a good reason why most forum communities have a 'chatbox' (and alternatively, most IRC communities have a community forum). They both allow different types of articulation.
Now there's a thought. Why
don't we have a chatbox on XC? Why can't we integrate the radio into the user control panel (or at least at the top of the page)? Some radio systems even have a playlist feature.
I agree that a plug-in model for our IRC community is the way to go, but I don't want things like radio and chatboxes, which as you said many other forums now have, to be the reason why I
need to fire up IRC.
I feel ya. Sadly, only a few people can develop for the forums. mIRC is more-or-less Open Source and easy to modify. Though, I can say, the reason (I feel) we don't have a traditional 'chatbox' here is that they don't support IRC. Kind of stupid to have the chatbox there that doesn't let you connect to the rest of the community. That being said, they make small, scaled Mibbit widgits that are customizable. They also have Java IRC protocols, but they require certificates, which can be complicated.
I think it's especially a great idea to integrate the XCRadio broadcast into the forums, but it has to be coded. :[

I believe there is a .dll for webcam support for mIRC. Writing a matching code to have it interact with skype.. or even hardcode it so it communicates over DCC... defiantly possible

There's a lot of security to be addressed here, but a lot of possibility.

http://radio.xerocreative.com/ - I didn't even know that existed, so most other people probably don't either. Cool none-the-less, though, (:
