This thread is to talk about some of the most popular decks in the current formats.

March 1st, 2012 Format:

Spoiler

I know that these aren't all the top/popular decks as of now, but that's where this thread comes into play. The three I listed are some of the most well known, but now it's your turn. If we could separate them into Tiers that would be great as well, have fun!!

Tier 0: Shapesnatch Pseudo OTK. It's just too damn broken.

Tier 1: Dino Rabbit, Inzektors, Wind-Ups.

Tier 1.5: Dark Worlds (They didn't get hit too bad, and honestly, if you let them, they can and will destroy you quite easily.), Gravekeepers (These guys are amazing if you can manage to keep Necrovalley in plentiful supply. Now with things like Spore and Glow Up gone, you've got less things to worry about slipping through Necro, not to mention the anti-Banish effect in it.), Dragons (Honestly, I'm not too familiar with the different builds of this, be it Disaster, or Chaos Dragons, or what not. Never been too big a fan of Dragons, though Blue Eyes is awesome.).

Tier 2: Agents (They got hit pretty hard, and now, while still somewhat competitive, they've kinda slipped in terms of tiers. They can't search out Venus, and a lot of their wins are going to end up being either topdecking like a champ, or being able to outplay several different decks.) Six Sams (Yes, they won Guadalajara, but honestly, I don't see them as coming back into competitive gameplay as easily. They got hit pretty hard in September, and while they got a tiny bit of a reprieve in  March, and Driven Daredevil, I still don't see much power behind them. Shi En is no longer a double or even triple threat, he's just kinda there in their Extra, leaving them room for XYZ. Plus, Asceticism has never had tons of consistency behind it, there's a lot of room for error in running it. If you know them inside and out, you can manage to pull off some crazy stuff, but that's about it.)

Tier GB: Gladiator Beasts. (Everyone runs these at the start of every format, thinking they'll do good. They never do.)

Tierless: Exodia. (One Day of Peace made this deck HORRIBLE to fight against, being not only a wall, but also a draw spell. You can't hurt them in any way, save for physically reaching across the table, and punching them in the jaw for playing it. At the same time, there's too many things that can go wrong with Exodia decks. Drawing your Draw Spells without drawing the cards to activate them, drawing the cards to activate the Draw spells you can't draw into, etc. etc.)

There's my outlook on this, feel free to dispute these, I have no idea what I'm doing.

IMHO, it's pretty pointless to try to dissect builds into tiers, being that we're only 3 days into the format xD

I mean, besides the obvious ones which were tier 1 already and didn't receive a hit in any form, I don't think we have enough to say "this is good, this is bad".

Give the format at least a pair of weeks to stabilize. Who knows, maybe a Deck we didn't expect turns out to be refined enough to beat the crap out of everyone.

All I'm trying to do is make the thread into a place where people can see what decks are popular and what decks are powerful.

It doesn't really need to be into Tiers yet, but just having a list of the most popular ones could be helpful, not to mention that this thread could go on for multiple formats as well.

I have to agree that they are going to be amazing when they come out, heck I would even say Tier 1 level. MBP completely owned me with his build as well, however Mask of Restrict completely stops them in their tracks so you never know.

If this is the case then I can see these builds running 3 MST and Heavy to counter all Mask of Restrict problems.

A well-timed Veiler also shuts them down, and a Maxx "C" can prove annoying if they can't OTK you that turn.

Probably Battle Fader might see some increase in play as well. Also, Hieroglyphs are kinda weak against retaliation: if you manage to survive and wipe their field, they can have a hard time coming back IMO. But that doesn't make them less dangerous.

Chain Disappearance is useful against them as well, which is why they usually run different-named vanilla Dragons: they won't lose all their copies this way.

@Cyberlancer: Yeah I can see a lot of builds doing that or at least siding a lot more back row hate in the future.

@Sho: This is very true, I personally would love to see Fader make a comeback, I've always loved that card.  Also with the whole "Wipe the field" thing do you think Lightning Vortex will see a bit more play then?

Interestingly enough, this deck also makes NGEPD a very viable option with its ability to spam level 8 Dragon type monsters.

Eh, Stun decks are fun yeah but not really my cup of tea.

I'd love to see underrated decks like Evols and HERO Beat gain attention, such great decks.

Exodia along with burn, empty jar, and final countdown seem tierless to me too.

Dino Rabbit and Inzektor have their main made in a way that it's plain damn strong or too broke against everything from the get-go.

I don't like Wind-Ups that much unless someone breaks the staple tour guide build and makes it more busted.

Stun decks left are skill drain builds, hero, and gravekeepers.  To me these are the competitive decks that people who can't afford tier 1 choose.

Well, it's a sad format too bad.

~Karakuri~

Their ability to use Naturia Synchros and no Darks means they can run Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror with abandon. Oh no, he's going to MST my mirror...oh hai Beast. My favorite thing in the entire world is opening Ninishi, Veiler, Solemn or Mirror, and then either Inashichi or Karakuri Cash Cache. So much the better if I have an MST in hand.

The only thing this definitely loses to, like HARDCORE loses, is Hero Beat. Against Dino Rabbit I can side out Mirror for Rivalry of Warlords (even though losing Beast/Barkion sucks, it sucks harder for the opponent to have a hand full of Sabersaurus lol) but Super Poly laughs at Naturia Beast. Super Poly into Monster Reborn is auto-win.

And obviously if a Stun player gets Rai-oh out first it's more than annoying, but Haipa takes care of Rai-oh pretty well.

Evols have been testing well for me

so yah lemme tell ya bout dem

Evo Force + Najasho = insta Rank 4 INCLUDING Dolkka/Laggia
Econ + Najasho = Steal monster and get Evolsaur
Najasho/Westlo into Vulcan = Insta Rank 4 INCLUDING Dolkka/laggia

also not needing many monsters means more room for heavy backrow like Gks, For exampleTriple chain Triple solemn MF Torrential and Your staple spells
plus it easly sides into Gozen

The only weakness is Lack of Big Beaters ive found myself in situations before against Stuff like Scrap Dragon with no answer to it until i draw Econ/Hole
although anything that runs over Utopia is scarce apart from Acid Golem Scrap dragon and the occasional Evigishki Zeal Gigas

Evols are very good, when more support comes out in the form of Galactic Overlord I have a feeling they'll be Tier 1.

IMO heros are doing quite good in this format, especially against DinoRabbit decks. All the field clearing, fusion spamming and even spamming those Blade armors are REAL neat! :D
