The new Duel Terminal storyline starting on Duel Terminal 13 had taken a turn FOR THE WORSE. After driving away the genocidal Vylons, a virus surfaced from the corpses of the dead Steelswarms. Desperate, the Gishiki attempted to awaken the three Ice Barrier dragons (Brionac, Gungnir and Trishula) to stop the epidemic, but that virus took on a new identity, known as the Verz, and took over the bodies of those three Dragons. Eventually, as the Gishiki put up their white flag on the impending outbreak, the whole Duel Terminal world would not be the same.

The Verz, despite being compatible successors to the Steelswarm archetype, play differently. Think of the archetype as a Anti-meta/swarm deck. All Verz monsters are corrupted Duel Terminal monsters, may any of them be from the old world (Naturia, Ice Barrier, Mist Valley, X-Saber, Flamvell) or the new world (Laval, GemKnight, Gishiki, Gusto). Should I put up OCG COTD's on Verz monsters, I'll let you know who got corrupted.

This card describes the epidemic.

With MST lurking around every corner... this card in particular might not play so well.

I'll have to take a comprehensive look at the "Vers" monsters before I make any further judgment on this card.

The new ice barrier dragons are exceed monsters and they are in fact pretty stupid. The Trishula requires three level 4 monsters and is basically just Trishula. The other two I don't remember off-hand, but the are good too.

No, the new ones are basically weakened versions of the real ones. They have traded 50 defense for attack and have a much weaker effect compared to their original counterparts (Gungir's counterpart Ophion might be the exception depending on who your opponent is since he can stop level 5 or higher special summons as long as you have a material attached).

And about Ouroboros being basically just Trishula. Sorry to say, but his effect is not nearly as good. Yes he can hit the grave, field and hand, but he can only hit one place each turn.

Now on to the CotD. A very nice card for the Verz archetypes, though a bit weakened due to the unlimited mst which can make you waste a card if it is chained to this card's effect.
Aside from that you can chain this to almost any effect that would kill your monster and you get a new one of your choice to your hand. In addition you can use it if you almost have a set up in your hand, but you have 1 monster you need to trade out for another.

So the card itself I give a 9/10, however in the meta today it becomes a 6/10.

IMO, Ophion is quite good since he's Roach, but completely neutralizes the threat of a Level 5+ Summon. Bahamut is pretty decent, since he can steal your opponent's monster. Ouroborus is pretty meh though, hes not anything like Trishula other than looks.

Anyway, this cards is quite useful. Dodge an opponent's card and get a Verz/Steelswarm card of your choice, continuously. Sure, MST is a problem, but you can use Ophion to search out another Virus, if necessary. And, it's a 1-for-1 trade regardless, so if you can benefit once from it, you've gotten your money's worth.

Art: 4/5, virus cards r scareh
Creativity: 4/5, yay for unlimited search power and reusable Steelswarms
Usefulness: 5/5, Steelswarms were pretty bad, but the Verz look somewhat promising

First... The Duel Terminal plot is taking a serious turn on AWESOME.

That said. This card is the backbone of the Verz archetype for now. With such diverse effects, they can easily work as a very potent Toolbox deck. As Verz, they have two Exiled Force-like dudes, a huge Hane-Hane wall, a 1850 anti-meta beater and a way to swarm fast. As splashable Inverz (for those not awesome enough to know, that's Steelswarms), they also have Needle, which is just really awesome and should be considered in pure Verz as well, and Sentinel, which... well, isn't.
And this is not even considering the main course: it can be Chained to removal. Sure, MST makes it not-actually-that-good on this format but hey, it seems Verz should work as an Trap-intensive deck. They have 3 MSTs and Heavy Storm (and some don't even run those 3 MSTs), and it's better they make it count.

All in all, it's a broken Toolbox engine and a way to dodge removal. What's not to like?

ADV: 9/10
ART: 7/10 (These eyes look kinda silly, and look a bit worse since they are featured so heavily on Verz cards)
