I've seen a recent surge of posts regarding this particular error. While the FAQ covers it well, I'll re-state it here:

If you are experiencing this error on Windows Vista or 7, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\XeroCreative\YVD

Replace User with your username on your computer. Program Files may be "Program Files (x86)", but is usually not the case. Once there, you will see a yvd.set file. Replace this file with the one from our downloads page. Then you're done. :)

An alternative (if you know how to) is to allow the Users group Full Control over the YVD directory in your program files folder. If you understand what this means, try it; otherwise, just follow the other steps.

Edit: I forgot to mention another workaround: if you always run YVD as administrator or have UAC off, it will use your YVD folder instead.

How do you get rid of the old yvd.set file? Just delete it? If so I did that and tryed to put the one from yalls download page there but it wouldnt let me.

You can just overwrite it. If it doesn't let you, copy the file to your desktop from the zip file first, then move it to that folder.

Updated post with another workaround.

I get Run-time Error '9' too, but I use a different fix. If you're sure that your set file isn't corrupt, then it's likely that your computer settings is conflicting with YVD. Since YVD is designed to run on English (US) systems, it will give you Run-Time Error '9' if you run it while your settings are in, say, Chinese. So, simply go to your Region and Language Settings in Control Panel, and choose English (United States) as the format. I'm not sure if this works with all versions of Windows (I'm using WinXP).

Mine was working fine earlier, and then I check the updater and let it run, and now I keep getting run-time error 9 "subscript out of range". I tired doing what the first post said, I even uninstalled and then reinstalled it and I still get the error.

As in, you set MS Word as the default program to open the file? Then just right click => "Open With" => "Choose Another Program..." (I'm not sure if that's what it's called). Choose Notepad, and make sure to check the "Always use this program to open files like these" box. Hope that helps

I deleted the yvd.set file and downloaded one from the download page. No help. Is this the fix for "Runtime error 9" "subscript out of range"

My friend got this problem today from doing the set update.  I downloaded it myself 2 hours later and had no issue.  He tried overwriting the set file and deleting the set file but no improvement.  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn't work.  Tried a system restore and that didn't work.  Any solutions?

Ok the only definite fix for this is DON'T SAVE YVD IN PROGRAM FILES (Vista and Win7).
Try installing YVD to Desktop or Documents.

Using the ZIP download is the easiest method of doing this.

Mine was running fine. I had it update the set and restarted YVD and now I keep getting the run-time error 9. I've manually loaded the previous set, didn't work. Uninstalled and installed YVD, didn't work. My program is located in the Program File (x86). I've tried everything I've read so far, gone to suggested links and to the links they suggest. Done what they said to and it still does NOT work. I also noticed one of my saved decks disappeared in the deck file after the set update. Someone, please help meh....  TT---TT

If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, the only defiant "fix" is to install it in a non-protected directory, such as My Documents or your Desktop.

Download the set file from the website and replace the one you have.
